Joe & Seph's Gourmet Popcorn

6th July 2013 By Urvashi Roe Leave a Comment

If, like me, you rarely buy popcorn in retail outlets because it is so ridiculously expensive then this is the popcorn that will change your mind.

Joseph Sopher – The Popcorn Alchemist
The company was started by Joseph Sopher. On regular trips to America he would bring back gourmet popcorn for friends and family. He started experimenting with using butter to coat the popcorn vs the standard oil and sugar method we all use. It took him many years to perfect the caramel coating used today.

But it doesn’t stop with caramel. Joe discovered that you can infuse different flavours at various stages of the cooking process which are released at different types as you crunch away.

There is a technique to eating this popcorn
You are supposed to “enjoy the aroma and then the pleasing crunch before relishing the flavours as they flourish on the palette”. Hmmm I dived right into this glorious jar of Gin and Tonic.

Yes I did say Gin and Tonic. And if you think that is a bonkers flavour, you will love the huge range of flavours such as Madras Curry, Peanut Satay and Lemon and Poppyseed to name a few.

On top of the indulgent pouches, the company make some wonderful gifts in tins, trendy Kilner jars and huge traditional sweetie jars. I’d like the large sweetie jar of Gin and Tonic please – though at £89.99 I might need to club that pocket money together!

You really do need to try this. On a glorious sunny day like today, the Honey and Hazelnut would be awesome on top of a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream. I’m also thinking the Goat’s Cheese and Black Pepper would be perfect with an ice cold glass of beer at the allotment later.

Buy online or all over the UK
Often, new and interesting products are only available in London but you can buy Joe and Seph’s Popcorn all over the UK and indeed worldwide. Their website has a great little tool to find the closest stockist.

Happy Crunching!

That’s an expensive habit you are developing there! But I agree it’s so good!
