Maison Marou was one of the first stops on our recent trip to Vietnam. Recommended by the fabulous London based chocolate expert Jennifer Earle, it was up high on the list.
About Marou Chocolate
If you are not familiar with Marou Chocolate, then it’s well worth taking a look at some of their videos which will gives you a sense of the brand and the two chaps behind the brand – Vincent Mourou and Sam Maruta. There was a real sense of passion and pride in the people we met in the shop which I loved.
The shop and cafe
The shop cum cafe is tucked away in a lovely tree lined street in Ho Chi Minh City close to the Fine Art Museum and the infamous Ben Thanh Market. We arrived around 10am and there were only two other customers so it really felt like having the whole place to ourselves. The space is also where the chocolate is made. I think there’s a bigger place on the outskirts of town but it was really nice to see explanations of how the chocolate is made and the way the company works with farmers to source ethically and fairly.
There were so many delightful choices on the menu but I opted for a hot chocolate, my husband a cold chocolate and we shared a “Paris Saigon”.
This was a lovely little pit stop in our hectic itinerary. I’d thoroughly recommend a visit if you’re in the city. There is a branch in Hanoi too.
