I've Gone a Bit Bananas!

9th January 2012 By Urvashi Roe Leave a Comment

“Mummy there’s a funny smell in your car” said my eldest last week.  Now this is a very strange comment because I keep the inside of my car very, very clean.  No sweet wrappers, chocolates, sandwiches or crisps are eaten and left in MY car.  EVER.

I had to admit that she was right though. There was a very odd smell.  Even though it’s only a small car we looked for over half an hour in all the nooks and crannies but to no avail.  And then a couple of days later I discovered the culprit.

Banana

Not in bad condition considering they were bought before Christmas! They were hiding right in the corner of the boot – almost falling under one of the hinges where I’d never have seen them.

I decided they needed some extra love considering the ordeal they had gone though so here’s the TLC they got.

  • Chocolate Pavlova with Butterscotch Bananas
  • Mini Banana and Oat Loaves
  • Banana Cupcakes
  • Banana and Chocolate Chip Loaf
  • White Chocolate and Butterscotch Banana Brownies

A veritable banana bonanza! Enjoy x

Last night I had all the needed ingredients for the banana and chocolate chip loaf and so gave it a go. It is absolutely lovely-all moist and chocolatey but not in the slightest sickly. Thanks Urvashi-its another one that’s going to become a favourite.

I have the same problem. I always buy bananas with good intentions, but there’s always the odd stray one or two that get left to decompose in the fruit-bowl. The last time it happened I remedied the situation by baking this –

Thanks for sharing your banana bake recipes. I now have a few more options up my sleeve for the next time it happens, which is a ‘when’ rather than an ‘if’.

I LOVE baking with bananas! I actually buy them to keep so I can bake with them. I don’t mind eating bananas but much prefer baking with them. Will definitely give your recipes a go.

I am not so ken on baking with banana’s as nobody seems to like them baked in this house but I can identify with locating the smell issue – at least yours was bananas it could have been worse!

We have a couple of slightly past their best bananas hanging around our place too but I must admit my imagination hadn’t stretched any further than banana bread. Thanks for the ideas!

I think I’ve seen a good flapjack recipe somewhere that uses mashed ripe banana – will let you know if I find it.
